Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless .380 ACP (Model M)
Factory Engraved, Class "B" Engraving
Serial Number 117029

Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless .380 ACP serial number 117029 - A very unique example with an unusual engraving pattern.  This work is believed to have been done by Colt factory master engraver Wilbur Glahn. This pistol has factory "B" coverage, but what makes it most unusual is the engraving treatment on seven areas of the finish. In these areas, the engraving is cut through the blue in order to give the gun the appearance of having engraved silver or platinum inlays.  This pistol is also fitted with beautiful period plain ivory grips.

The factory letter describes this pistol as having a blue finish, stocks not listed, factory engraved and shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch, May 11, 1933, New York, NY as a single gun shipment on Colt factory order number 12226. (see letter below):

Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless .380 ACP serial number 117029 - close-up of left side of slide showing engraving cut through the blue on the slide and to the left of the serial number.  Notice how the engraved leaves that enter the white engraved areas have a blued finish.

A very distinctive engraved treatment on the top radius of the slide wrapping over the upper edge and onto the left side.

Engraving around the ejection port.

Close-up of the right side of the slide.  Notice how the area around the front sight and the front sight is engraved.  The front site is factory -- the red paint on the front sight was applied by a previous owner.

Close-up of the right side of the slide.

The unusual yet creative rectangular pattern on the rear of the slide and frame makes it difficult to discern which parts belong to the slide and which parts belong to the frame until the slide is drawn back.

Engraving on the underside of the trigger guard.

Engraving on the underside of the slide and the forward part of the frame.

Top down view of the front sight.

Top down view of the rear sight.

Engraving on the grip safety.
